Thin Slate, Long Break: Macau Sauna

· 7 min

You open the ticketing app, scroll the October listings to the bottom, and there are maybe four things on it. You put the phone down. The days are booked, the leave is approved, and the evenings are still blank.

What is actually on the board

Mid-Autumn day carries two new Chinese releases, 《老江湖》 and 《死亡禁区实录》, alongside a re-release of Avengers: Endgame. National Day opens with one new title, 《野兽之心》. That is the board as 21st Century Business Herald confirmed it on 6 September 2026. An animated feature pulled out of the Mid-Autumn and National Day window in early September, ten days after announcing its date, and left another gap behind it.

The break itself is generous: Mid-Autumn runs 25 to 27 September, National Day 1 to 7 October. Plenty of free evenings, nothing obvious to put in them. That is this year’s real question.

The thing the cinema used to decide for you

A long holiday evening goes to the cinema because the cinema does the deciding. Showtime, seat, running time, all of it settled the moment you pay, and your only job is to turn up. This year that shortcut is gone. Not because Macau is short of screens, but because nothing on the list is worth the seat.

Which is good news, if you turn it over. An evening with no showtime stretches or shortens to fit you. It can run loud until sunrise, or finish clean at four in the morning. Arranging exactly that is most of what we do at this time of year.

The part we take off your hands

When you book through this site, the private car is free in both directions and covers all of Macau. You wait in the hotel lobby, the car is at the door. How the pickup works in practice is set out on the transfers page.

At the venue the add-on services are free, chosen on the night once you are there — two at most houses, one at East Castle and Majesty. Nothing to settle in advance. There is also a free consultation: if you cannot tell which house suits the evening you have in mind, ask us first. That part costs nothing, and asking does not commit you to anything.

Someone asked us for an October itinerary

A message came in recently from a guest with five nights in Macau in October. The daytime was already planned to the hour, the evenings were empty, and what they wanted was a schedule for them.

We did not send a schedule. We asked one question back: on each of those nights, what time do you want to wake up? Two of the five, they said, they wanted to sleep late and slowly. The rest they wanted to end early and back at the hotel. That answered it. Two nights in a house that never closes, the others in the house that shuts at dawn. In the end only two things were fixed: the dates, and what time the car reaches the hotel door.

When you walk in shapes how long the night runs

VenueOpening hoursTherapists
Empire24 hours14:00 – 06:00
Shang Pin24 hours15:00 – 06:00
The Excellent12:00 – 04:0012:00 – 04:00

Empire sits on the Macau peninsula, open around the clock, with therapists on shift from two in the afternoon until six in the morning. Of the three it picks up the evening earliest, which is why guests who want to move before dinner usually land there.

Shang Pin is inside the Lisboeta hotel in Cotai and also runs 24 hours, therapists from three until six. Over a long break a lot of guests are staying in the new district, and not crossing half the city at night is the honest advantage here.

The Excellent is in the Grand Emperor Hotel and opens at noon, earlier than anywhere else in town. The trade is at the other end: it closes at four in the morning and does not do overnight stays. One more thing worth knowing about its board is that the service charge and tourism tax are already inside the listed price, so the bill does not grow at the end. To line the houses up side by side, there is the venue overview and our ranking.

The hour starts when the therapist starts

This is the part most guests have wrong on a first visit. Walking in, changing, the pools, the steam room, taking your time over the choice: none of that counts. Sixty minutes or ninety, the clock begins the moment the therapist begins.

Within opening hours, everything before that is your own, for as long as you want it. Put another way, the only time anyone measures is the time somebody is working on you. Guests tend to slow down once they know that.

The one thing we will not promise

We will not promise you a named therapist. Who is on shift and who is free is a fact of that particular night, not something we can pin down over a message. Anyone willing to guarantee it is selling you a guarantee that expires before you reach the door.

What we can pin down is the date, the car, and every question you want answered before you walk in. It is also why we ask what time you want to wake up rather than reading you a list of names.

How the evening actually runs

From late afternoon the floor starts filling. After dark the lighting drops, the music comes up, the corridors get noisy, and this is the best stretch of the night by a distance.

When the bathing and the session are done, stay if you feel like it. The two 24-hour houses will keep you until daylight, and waking up inside the venue with a coffee before the car takes you back leaves the next day intact. The Excellent closes at four, so that night finishes before sunrise with the car at the door and your own hotel bed at the end of it. If the overnight side is what interests you, our overnight guide covers which houses hold guests until morning.

With a break this long, the interesting move is one of each. You will know quickly which version suits you, and next October will not need thinking about.

The questions we answer every October

Do the venues close over Mid-Autumn and National Day?

No. Macau works through those days and every house opens on its usual clock. The 24-hour ones stay 24-hour. This is the most-asked question of the season and the answer never changes.

I am staying in Cotai. Do I have to cross to the peninsula?

Not necessarily. Shang Pin is inside the Lisboeta. If you would rather have one of the two peninsula houses, the car still comes to your hotel door, both directions included.

Should I tell you which free add-ons I want?

No need. You choose them on the night, in person, which is a far better way to pick than guessing from a message. How many you get depends on the house: two at most, one at East Castle and Majesty.

Can I still start very late?

Depends which house. The two with therapists on shift until six in the morning will take a late start comfortably. The Excellent closes at four, so a very late departure does not suit it.

Is going on my own strange?

Not at all, solo guests are common. Groups work too. Tell us the headcount in your message and we take it from there. The rest of the practical detail is on the FAQ page.

Fix the date

You do not have to work it all out at once. The date, the hotel you are in, whether you want the loud version or the quiet one, one message covers it, and contact us is always open.

What time the car reaches the door, which house comes first, whether that night ends at the hotel or at sunrise inside the venue: we arrange it. The October listings are no help this year, and your evenings do not have to follow anybody’s showtime.
